Autumn And Winter
With the colder weather arriving, you may not think there's too much to do outside now. In some aspects this is right, but the right preparation made over Autumn and Winter, could be the difference between a nice spring garden and an Amazing spring garden.

HEDGES

Privet hedges will be ready for cutting back to size and shape, ready for new leaf next year. The growth will be slowed right down with the cooler weather, and by taking them back to the require size means your hedge will come back lush and green in the spring and will be easy to keep maintained.

Regular maintenance of Privet is essential to ensure a plant full of foliage and life. Many insects live on Privet, and Birds nest inside, so keeping your hedge maintained also encourages wildlife.

Also ensure laylandaii are cut back, but not too far to expose brown foliage.

PRUNING

In order to get the best from your bushes and plants next year, it is essential that they are pruned and taken back now. This will encourage nutrients back into the plants and give it a thriving start next spring. If dead foliage is left on plants, it is in danger of becoming damaged and diseased over the winter months and leaving your plants wilted and brown next year.

If pruning is done too late in the year, there are chances of frost damage to your plants. This is why now is a good time to have this done.

BORDERS

Now is the time to be making those last border changes, and planting next years bulbs. Grass growth has virtually stopped, which means weeding the borders now will keep them looking clean and tidy over the winter, also allowing the soil to recuperate some of the lost nutrients.

Plant your favourite spring bulbs now so the damp weather can ensure a blooming start to next year.

LAWNS

It is important to give your lawn a last cut before the frost start appearing. Remember not to cut the grass to short as this will expose roots and frost can burn grass and kill it, leaving your lawn bear and patchy in spring.

As soon as temperature drops below 5 degrees C, the grass will completely stop growing. Finishing the lawn with one last cut will give you a lovely looking winter garden.  REMEMBER: Try not to walk on frosted grass.

PAVING AND PATIO'S

Having your paving and patio cleaned before winter stops the moss and dirt eating its way into the brickwork. A quick clean before the wet season will and then when spring comes, will give you maximum protection and also a great new look to your paving.

Paving which is covered in moss over winter can be slippery and dangerous.

GUTTERING

This is England, and we get a lot of rain. Ensure protection of your property by having your gutters cleared so all water runs away from your roof.

FALLEN LEAVES

Clearing fallen leaves from patio areas and borders will eave a nice clean look to your garden, and if done correctly, the leaves can be composted ready to use next year in your thriving garden.
